Focus (Part 1)- The Secret Sauce In a Distracted World
I have always been the type of person that works on a million projects at a time.
I have a new hobby every three months, a new life purpose every year. I will be watching TV while listening to music, while also reading a book? All to say that, like many people, I have an extremely short attention span and find it very difficult to do one thing at a time.
This is made worse by the fact that there is an endless demand for this already scarce resource of attention.
My phone and laptop make sure there is always something interesting a click of a button away. It feels practically impossible to not multi-task or not reach for my phone, and actually give full attention to the (relatively) boring work on my to-do list. The ability to focus in this day and age is a superpower.
But focus is the secret to making tangible progress in any one area of our lives.
Being able to focus on one thing for a sustained period of time is a skill with an unlimited return on investment. Over the next few weeks, let’s explore this topic of focus from emotional, scientific, and anecdotal points of views.
You can do anything—but not everything. – David Allen
